Mattel introduced Hot Wheels in 1968. There were sixteen cars in the first release. The paint style, thin axles and wheel design revolutionized the diecast car. Instantly it went from pushing it over that roadway to letting it fly down the track by itself. Though not initially intended the cars were released in a wide variation of colors all with the redline wheels wich have become hot wheels most prominent signature. The CUSTOM 36 FORD COUPE, released in 1969 was offered in as many as 17 colors.
